Meet the Board: Alex Adams
Alex Adams calls Norman, Oklahoma home and is a proud citizen of the Choctaw Nation. An artist at heart, they spend their days working at a jewelry craft store while serving on staff for Cousins, an Indigenous 2SLGBTQ+ youth group. Creativity flows through every part of Alex’s life—from sketching and writing to photography and music.
For Alex, community work is not optional. “We live in a world where this work is needed more than ever. It doesn’t feel like a choice anymore. It is vital to our communities’ survival,” they explain. That deep sense of urgency is what drew Alex to Culture Hub, an organization they describe as understanding a crucial truth: sustaining movements and communities requires nurturing the spirits of the people within them.
At Culture Hub, Alex found a space that goes beyond providing basic needs. It also focuses on the mental and emotional well-being of the people it serves. For Alex, this mission resonates deeply. “Culture Hub touches a specific part of my soul that represents community love in its most profound form. It shows the true strength of what happens when communities come together to rebuild and thrive,” they say.
The idea of a place like Culture Hub has lived in Alex’s imagination since childhood. They remember daydreaming about it when they were just eight years old, and it brings them comfort to know that such a place really exists. When the invitation came to join Culture Hub’s inaugural Board of Directors, Alex felt a quiet pull, a determination to serve their community in a chaotic world. Culture Hub felt like a safe house amidst uncertainty.
Their understanding of community leadership has been shaped by mentors and fellow board members, including Sarah Adams and Kendra Wilson Clements, who have shown them what it means to care for a community not out of obligation but out of love. Watching their example inspired Alex to step up and stand alongside them.
Looking ahead, Alex hopes Culture Hub continues growing as a place of safety, belonging, and hope. They admire the organization’s openness, noting that it does not discriminate over who is worthy of help, and that it recognizes a fundamental truth: none of us are free until all of us are free. For Alex, Culture Hub is a space rooted in growth, connection, and stability—a beacon of hope in a world that often feels heavy with hate and uncertainty.
We are thrilled to have Alex as a member of Culture Hub’s inaugural board of directors.
